Seeing that soccer is currently popular with everyone (even those of us who don’t fully understand the game), perhaps it’s time we listened to one of its leading stars.

“No individual can win a game by himself,” observes the great Pelé.

Or, if you are of a more literary turn of mind, how about Louisa May Alcott pointing that, “It takes two flints to make a fire.”

Or the English poet and writer Thomas Hood asking, “When was ever honey made with one bee in the hive?”

Obvious statements all.

Why then has the city decided to go it alone and bring tourism in-house? Economic development too, for that matter. That is very much a related issue but just let’s concentrate on tourism for the moment since council recently approved a document claiming to be a tourism strategy.
