Green UP presents Monarchs & Milkweed 101, a workshop on how to raise and release monarch butterflies from home and the associated ecological benefits.

The free hands-on workshop takes place Sunday Sept. 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Green UP, located at 378 Aylmer St. Participants will learn how to responsibly raise and release monarchs from home by understanding each stage of the monarch life cycle — egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and adult — and the habitat conditions they depend on.

The workshop will also explore how home‑based monarch care supports local ecosystems, from protecting milkweed to boosting pollinator networks, and gives people practical ways to strengthen monarch survival in their own backyards. When more community members have a better understanding of the role of monarchs in their environment and take an active role in their survival, we will have a stronger, more resilient local ecosystem.
