Aging athletes still holding their own

For fans of the NFL, the last month of the regular season has been intriguing on a number of fronts. Over the course of the last four regular-season games, teams jockeyed for division titles, playoff berths, and wild card seedings.

The most intriguing story was the comeback by retired 44-year-old quarterback and grandfather Philip Rivers. The Indianapolis Colts started the season with an 8-2 win-loss record, and then disaster struck. 

Starting quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending torn Achilles. With their playoff hopes in peril, and four extremely competitive games in front of them, Colts head coach Shane Steichen summoned Rivers, hoping that his experience and leadership would produce a couple of wins to vault the Colts into the playoffs.

Despite River’s best efforts, and respectable performances, (four touchdowns thrown against three interceptions)........
