The extreme heat and tinder-dry conditions have sparked countless fires across the countryside, stretching emergency resources - with Norfolk fire crews tackling more than 60 blazes in just one week at the end of last month.

But the county's firefighters have been assisted by farmers using their machinery to plough fire breaks, move hay bales and pull apart stack fires, helping to help prevent flames........
