Old brewery reborn as ‘creative quarter’ as Wensum Lodge transforms into business hub

The newly named Wensum Wharf, on King Street, is being transformed into a centre for the city’s creative industries and wellness businesses.

Norfolk County Council sold the former adult learning centre to heritage property firm Slow Norfolk for £765,000 last year.

Owners Mark and Helen Littlewood plan to renovate the buildings one at a time over the next four years, all while preserving their historic character.

The couple also own the Norwich-based marketing and design company OneAgency, which has moved into the first completed building, known as the Stables, relocating its 50-strong team to the 6,500 sq ft riverside office space.

More than £400,000 has been invested in the privately-funded project to date.

Once complete, the couple estimates that the five buildings could accommodate up to 16 businesses, creating a workspace for 250 to 300 people.

The historic site was the home of Crown Brewery in the 1800s, with its two crowns still sitting proudly on top of the site's King Street gates to this day.
