The 20-year-old girl in Odisha’s Balasore, who set herself on fire on Saturday, succumbed to her injuries late on Monday night. The victim immolated herself, protesting the lack of action on her sexual harassment complaint.

The victim was a student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College and had accused her head of department, Prof Samir Kumar Sahu, of repeated sexual advances and threats to fail her in examinations if she refused. Despite filing a complaint with the college’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), no action was taken. Instead, the professor was given a clean chit.

The victim’s condition deteriorated as she had suffered 95 per cent burns. She was brought to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on July 12 and declared dead at 11:46 pm on July 14, according to a hospital bulletin. President Droupadi Murmu visited the hospital just hours before her death and assured the........
