ISRO nears 90% completion of Gaganyaan: India prepares for first human spaceflight mission
New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is continuously moving towards its historic human spaceflight programme, Gaganyaan. The chairman, V. Narayanan, has affirmed that close to 90 per cent of the work towards developing the mission is done, and this has been a significant step towards launching Indian astronauts into space in a locally developed spaceship. The success highlights the increasing Indian space capacity and its desire to become one of the few countries with the capability to do their own crewed space missions.
The launch of the Gaganyaan mission that would put the Indian astronauts into low Earth orbit reflects decades of research and technology development in the ISRO centres. The human-rated launch vehicle, life support modules, crew escape systems and astronaut safety systems are all in their last phases of development.
