Cyclone Arnab threat: Which coastal states are on high alert as IMD warns of extremely heavy rain?

Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh are bracing for intense rain and squally winds as a Bay of Bengal deep depression moves towards the coast. Officials clarified the system will not intensify into Cyclone Arnab.

New Delhi: A rapidly intensifying weather system over the Bay of Bengal has put several eastern coastal states on high alert as it advances towards landfall. According to the IMD, the depression moved west-northwestwards at 18 kmph and was centered roughly 200 km southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha and 290 km east of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The system is forecast to strengthen into a deep depression before crossing the coastline between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur overnight on September 23. Speculation........
