NSE IPO: Exchange earns huge revenue from F&O; is its earning under SEBI glare?

NSE is a global leader in F&O trade and the exchange generates a significant portion of its revenue from transaction charges, and options trading is a major contributor to this. If options volumes decline, NSE's transaction revenue could be pressured faster than those from other businesses. Kolkata: The bidding process of the mega NSE IPO is set to open tomorrow, September 17, 2026. NSE is not only a modern stock exchange but also a global leader in derivatives trading. Its strongest business is from futures and options trading (F&O), which is coming under increasing regulatory pressure. The exchange generates a significant portion of its revenue from transaction charges, and options trading is the largest contributor to this. According to reports, transaction charges accounted for 78.6% of NSE’s total operating revenue in FY26. Options alone contributed Rs 9,997 crore, or 60%, of operating revenue, while futures generated Rs 1,480 crore, or 9%.
