New Delhi: A car bomb exploded at a toll plaza in southwestern Colombia on Saturday, a day after conservative President Abelardo de la Espriella was sworn into office. The incident comes in as an early security challenge for the country’s new government.

The blast occurred on the Pan-American Highway, the main road connecting the departments of Cauca and Valle del Cauca. The Colombian Army blamed two dissident factions of the now-defunct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) for the attack. The groups had rejected the peace agreement signed between the FARC and the government a decade ago.
