UK government still unclear on proposed ICE car ban
New Delhi: In 2021, the European Union announced a rule that required all new cars sold from 2035 to cut CO₂ emissions by 100 percent. In simple terms, this meant carmakers would no longer be allowed to sell petrol or diesel cars, forcing them to switch fully to electric vehicles. At the time, it was seen as a clear end date for internal combustion engine (ICE) cars in Europe.
However, a little over four years later, the situation looks very different. Policymakers in the EU now appear hesitant to go ahead with a full ban on ICE vehicles, even in the long term, says Autocar India. The original plan is being reconsidered, and the idea of completely removing combustion engines........
