After an “investigation” at the Royal Brompton Hospital last year, Emma Willis was diagnosed with a hole in her heart (also known as an atrial septal defect, or ASD for short).

“Turns out, I’ve been pottering around for 48 years blissfully unaware I had a hole in my heart,” she wrote on Instagram. “Isn’t it bonkers what’s happening in our bodies that we have no idea about?”

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) says that at birth, ASD often has no symptoms.

But if it doesn’t close, “symptoms may begin in adulthood,” the Mayo Clinic added.
