Happy 50 Over 50 launch week! Those of you who follow Forbes or ForbesWomen on social media likely know that this week marked the release of the sixth annual Forbes 50 Over 50 list. As always, it was produced in partnership with Mika Brzezinski and her Know Your Value initiative, and as always, I am so so proud of the list and the many stories within (many of which you’ll find throughout the rest of this email).
Because this year marks the fifth anniversary of the 50 Over 50 (we first launched it in 2021), and because I’m inclined to use anniversaries as moments of reflection, I’ve been thinking a lot about this franchise and why it matters so much to me.
What I’ve landed on is this: It’s a privilege to age, and we don’t all get to do it, or do it well. To be 60 or 70 or 80 and not just working but executing at your highest possible level of impact is, frankly, remarkable. It’s not a given. It requires a precise combination of genetic luck and professional persistence and personal grit... and all 200 women on the 50 Over 50 possess this alchemy.
This list also matters because earlier this year, a semi-viral survey finding showed that 70% of women say they feel increasingly invisible as they age. The 50 Over 50 is meant to actively combat that feeling of invisibility – and show the world that women are doing some of their most........
