The 'forgotten' neighbourhood getting £20m... with locals to decide how it's spent

But in West Earlham, the reality could hardly be more different.

Here, more than a third of children grow up in poverty, half the housing stock is social, and locals describe a creeping sense that as the rest of their city has flourished, their neighbourhood has been quietly forgotten.

Now, that could be about to change.

The government's Pride in Place programme has earmarked £20 million for West Earlham and neighbouring Bowthorpe over the next ten years.

Two million pounds a year, arriving in annual tranches, is set to be spent on whatever the community decides it needed most.

Clive Lewis, the Labour MP for Norwich South whose constituency takes in the area, described the Pride in Place programme as among the most significant funding of its kind since the early 1990s.
