Elected leaders will always relish a week of political wins, but there’s something extra special about the Calgary Stampede as the backdrop. 

It was a Stampede to remember for Premier Danielle Smith, who has all sorts of wind in her political sails after a series of major announcements. It kicked off on the eve of Stampede with a joint news conference with Prime Minister Mark Carney on a major step forward for a new West Coast pipeline, followed last week by Meta’s announcement of a $13-billion investment in a new data centre in Alberta.

Bookended by those two announcements was a separate press conference with Smith standing alongside Doug Ford, sharing details on yet another potential pipeline project. On the surface, this is another win in Smith’s recent run of success.
