When your car refuses to accept you

When arriving at my fitness center the other morning, I parked my recently acquired car in a usual spot near the middle of the facility's good-sized lot, far from other vehicles.

After tidying up following my kick-boxing class, I headed out the door, planning a quick stop at a nearby grocery before driving to the Democrat-Gazette newsroom for the usual Monday morning mayhem. As I approached the car, I hit the button on my key fob to unlock the door.

The door did not unlock.

Puzzled, because I heard the beep generated when the fob is touched, I tried again. Nothing. I tried the passenger door and the trunk. Beeps, but no opening of doors.

Refusing to admit defeat, I poked at the fob several more times while the well-known quote, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results," ran through my mind. Frustration replaced reason.

Eventually deciding my efforts were accomplishing nothing, I debated calling the dealership, which was relatively nearby.........
