In the late 1990s and early 2000s, professional wrestling was all the rage. Megastars like Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock propelled the beautiful theatrics of sports entertainment to televisions around the country. It was edgy, hip and fascinating.

Professional wrestling has gone through some ups and downs since that time. But dare I say, World Wrestling Entertainment has been poking at the mainstream.

For the sake of word count, I can’t fully address what you’re thinking – wrestling is fake. Scripted and predetermined? Yes. Fragile tables and faux punches? Yes.

But the long-term storytelling, star power and emotions of the modern WWE are real. It’s a crossover between live TV, theater and sports, and it’s gaining traction every day.

Nearly 150,000 people attended Wrestlemania XL this past weekend. Millions of viewers tuned in from around the world and it’s already being called the greatest and biggest Wrestlemania ever.

It may always be a niche product, and many will never enjoy it, but I say give it a chance. This new era may surprise you.
