My Dad used to say that winter came at the same time every year and caught us all by surprise.

Eight months into this pandemic the predictable continues to surprise us.

As the events of this week unfolded, I was reminded of several conversations over the last month. A few weeks ago, I spoke with a teacher who was eager to get back into the classroom. He said that things would be different, but he felt confident that educators could “figure it out.”

At about the same time, I heard from a parent who said she wouldn’t be sending her kids back to school.She wasn’t overly fussed about COVID-19 – her kids were already in contact with other children. But she worried about exposing her children to the mindless, purposely frightening and often contradictory rules dictated by education bureaucrats.

It turns out that the predictions of two months ago........
