The premier has gone out of her way to avoid criticizing the U.S. president or his administration. She’s also gone out of her way to avoid criticizing the separatist movement. That avoidance may not be tenable under the circumstances

Canada was very much centre stage at last week’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, between Prime Minister Mark Carney’s landmark speech and the petulant reaction from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Lost amid all of that, though, were further signs that the Trump administration is taking an active interest in Alberta. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the White House views a potential independence referendum in Canada as something to exploit. We should pay close attention to that.
