Somali fraudsters are being brought to justice, but the sentencing leaves much to be desired.

The Daily Mail reported Wednesday that Zamzam Jama has been sentenced to an absurdly light six months in jail for her role in Minnesota’s Feeding Our Future fraud case. Her co-conspirator, Abdul Abubakar Ali, was only sentenced to a year the day prior by the same judge, Nancy Brasel.

According to a separate report on Ali by the Washington Examiner, Feeding Our Future ostensibly served as a nutrition program for children, receiving federal funds from the Federal Child Nutrition Program. Ali and Jama had authorized food distribution sites which received millions of dollars in “reimbursements” for money supposedly used on hungry kids.

The Jama family had a restaurant and cafe they claimed as their distribution site that stole over $5 million.

She bought a house and a car with the money, and is now being ordered to pay back $491,000. She is the first in the family to be sentenced, and her relatives have also pled guilty.

Ali had his own site which took in $3 million and never fed a single child.

Why are these fraudsters receiving such light sentences? Why are they not spending decades in prison and not being ordered to return every cent they stole after forging invoices and creating fake rosters?

Brasel said she has the duty to combat “implicit racial bias” in the justice system.

Per the Washington Examiner, she also noted what she sees as a disproportionate number of black people incarcerated in the state’s prisons.

Stunningly, this activist judge is not an appointee of former presidents Joe Biden or Barack Obama, but came to the bench as a part of a deal made by President Donald Trump during his first term with Minnesota Democrats.

Jama is the eighth defendant sentenced, with others receiving 17 and a half years in prison.

What racial bias and black people in prison have to do with Somali fraudsters stealing tax dollars remains a mystery.

Brasel — in her distorted view of justice — sees this case through a systemic lens. The actions of individuals are downplayed in service of her greater vision. It’s not justice at all.

According to the Federal Judicial Center, Brasel was not even born in this country. She hails from Durham, England.

A foreign-born judge is handing down her warped view of justice to two other foreigners who stole tax dollars from Americans.

The only thing Brasel has accomplished is giving hope to the Jama family and other fraudsters.

If they wind up in her courtroom, punishment may very well amount to a slap on the wrist.
