After Australia, are we finally ready to defend our Jewish neighbors? |
There is nothing routine about violence against Jews, and it's shocking how commonplace it is becoming. The world is frustratingly comfortable with antisemitism, and Jews are paying the tragic price.
We saw that again during a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on Dec. 14. The attack, carried out by a father and son duo, left 15 victims dead, a 10-year-old girl among them. About 40 others have been wounded and hospitalized, and one of the gunmen was killed by police. Video footage of the shooting has been circulating on social media, and it is nauseating.
Thankfully, at least one hero emerged, disarming one of the shooters with nothing but his bare hands. Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, likely saved dozens of lives. But the aftermath is still brutal.
In times of terrorism and tragedy like this particular bloodshed, we gasp in horror, condemn antisemitism, look at gun laws and then go on about our lives.........
