By the time Vice President Kamala Harris takes the stage in Chicago on Thursday night, she’ll have been preceded by a parade of Democratic cheerleaders and party standard-bearers.
The first night of the Democratic National Convention featured former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the current president himself, among others. Tim Walz will officially accept the party’s vice presidential nomination, former President Bill Clinton is slated to take the mic, along with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
By most accounts, the vibe at the DNC is one of party unity. Each living Democratic president, except for Jimmy Carter, is making a stop in Chicago. (Carter, 99, has said he hopes to live long enough to cast a vote for Harris. And his grandson spoke at the convention Tuesday.)
