Thursday’s debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump will mark a number of firsts in the more than 60-year history of American presidential candidates debating on television.

Hosted by CNN in its Atlanta studio, Thursday’s contest will be the earliest a televised debate between presidential general election candidates has ever been held in a calendar year, with all previous debates having been held in September or October, after the parties’ nominating conventions.

CNN anchors Dana Bash and Jake Tapper will serve as moderators in the debate, the third between Biden and Trump, but the first of the 2024 presidential election.
