Arizona Democrats Chose Politics Over Transparency

Earlier this spring, the Arizona Senate passed SB 1186, my legislation to strengthen transparency and accountability in state contracting after a series of troubling scandals under Governor Katie Hobbs' administration. This bill is working its way through the State House of Representatives to the Governor's Office. I’m hopeful that the legislation sends a message to Arizonans and others around the nation that their government officials will not sit by to allow the misuse and abuse of their taxpayer dollars.

Over the past two years and counting, Arizonans have watched controversy after controversy unfold involving how major contracts and funding decisions were handled. From the Sunshine Residential Homes rate increase debacle to serious concerns raised by an administrative law judge about the evaluation of a multibillion-dollar AHCCCS contract, the pattern has been the same: a lack of transparency and serious questions about whether political connections played a role in how taxpayer dollars were distributed. When billions of dollars are on the line, the public deserves confidence that the process is fair and above board.........
