STRAHL: Shame abounds in Lavscam's latest chapter

The shame! The ethics commissioner has ruled on the SNC-Lavalin debacle and has used unequivocal language in condemning what happened over the past year. No other prime minister in our history has been accused and found guilty of serious Conflict of Interest Act breaches, something that has now happened twice to Justin Trudeau.

In the Trudeau ll Report it’s the worst yet, with the ethics czar finding that Trudeau breached the ethics code and, worse yet by far, tried to interfere in an active criminal investigation. There may have been illegal actions here, and the RCMP should investigate. But even without that, there is shameful, shameful behaviour in play, and it extends to plenty of people.

First to the PM himself. The man can and has apologized for every real and imagined action of individuals and generations before him but he seems congenitally unable to apologize for his own actions. When, for example, a reporter says he inappropriately touched her a number of years ago, he explains that “we can all learn that different people interpret events differently.”

A previous ethics commissioner finding that says Trudeau breaking rules to personally benefit from a vacation trip to the Aga Khan’s island is merely a “difference of opinion.”........
