Karma is tough.

Back in 2019, following the last federal election that reduced the Liberals to a minority government, Peter MacKay had a few choice words for then Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer.

McKay said that Scheer’s failure to beat Trudeau was “like having a breakaway on an empty net and missing the net.” Cute.

Maybe not so cute now. MacKay was the front runner in the race to replace Scheer as leader. Heck, he had a breakaway on an empty net.

Sometimes Karma gets you.

Politics isn’t a game for the weak of heart.

But politics (and life) never has to be dirty. Passion and conviction don’t have to bleed to zealotry. Even in this graceless age, there is room in political life for dignity and honour.

After the last federal election many CPC supporters wanted change. Some — myself included — were disappointed........
