MARIN: Ethics commish needs power to sanction Trudeau

While Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been known to apologize for old misdeeds of previous governments, he’s missing in action when it comes to his own shortcomings.

Given several opportunities to apologize for his mishandling of the SNC-Lavalin affair — Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion found he improperly tried to pressure then-attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould into granting a deferred prosecution agreement to the company — Trudeau just turtled.

Trudeau appears tone deaf to the whole thing, speaking out of both sides of his mouth.

He accepts Dion’s report and takes “full responsibility” for what happened. Now that would imply that there should be consequences for him. Afterall, Dion called Trudeau’s tactics “troubling,” adding that the evidence “abundantly shows that Mr. Trudeau knowingly sought to influence Ms. Wilson-Raybould both directly and through the actions of his agents.”
