Editorial: When it comes to transparency, Hochul is naughty indeed |

Gov. Kathy Hochul has been named to the New York Coalition for Open Government's 'naughty list' yet again.
Remember, if you can, back to those early days of Gov. Kathy Hochul's tenure, when after 10 years under the prior fellow, there seemed to be genuine cause for optimism around the issue of government transparency.
Ms. Hochul, a Democrat, entered office in 2021 promising to bring a new era of sunshine to Albany. It was a pledge that suggested real change for a state government with a reputation for keeping secrets. It almost felt like a new day.

Alas, it wasn't.
As the governor enters what is expected to be her fifth full year of office, an election year, the governor's pledge of transparency remains unfilled. As this editorial board has repeatedly noted, her promise has been broken, and Ms. Hochul appears to have little interest in changing course.
