Commentary: More N.Y. wagering options will mean more problem gambling |

It is likely that Gov. Kathy Hochul and legislators will be searching for additional sources of revenue in the next legislative session. If they choose to explore expanded gambling opportunities, I’d like to offer some suggestions.
I am not telling the state to roll back its gambling expansions; that would be unrealistic. However, there are risks that must be addressed, and the state must prepare for the problems that will flow from the expanded opportunities to gamble.

In the pursuit of new revenue, New York gaming officials have approved licenses for three new downstate casinos. The state has already made gambling as simple as opening your smartphone, where you can easily spend your rent or mortgage money — or even your life savings.........
