Few media figures have pushed the Russia-Trump collusion theory more aggressively and enthusiastically than Malcolm Nance, the "counter-terrorism analyst" for NBC News and MSNBC.

Nance has repeatedly asserted that Donald Trump is little more than a Russian puppet. The opening sentence of "The Plot to Destroy Democracy," his best-selling book, makes the point clear: "On Nov. 8, 2016, Vladimir Putin became the first Russian President of the United States."

Nance has also predicted, again and again, that Robert Mueller's investigation would not just end Trump's presidency, but uncover "the biggest scandal in the history of the United States." The revealed treachery would be worse than Benedict Arnold's, Nance told his audiences.

We now know Mueller found no such thing, that the bombshell was a dud. So I reached out to Nance, who lives in Columbia County, for his reaction. Was he willing to say he was wrong? Would Nance concede that Trump, for all his faults and failings, might not be under Putin's sway?

Not on your life.
