Churchill: It's reckoning time for Hochul and New York Democrats

Let's break away from the ongoing Republican jubilation to note that presidential results from our little corner of the world were not terrible for Kamala Harris.
The vice president won New York comfortably, of course, and she triumphed in Albany and Schenectady counties, just as Democratic presidential candidates always do. Harris also won in Rensselaer and Saratoga counties, an accomplishment Hillary Clinton could not claim when she faced Donald Trump.
Saratoga County voters gave Harris a one-point win. That was surprising, in a way, because Saratoga is a bellwether that has sided with the winning presidential candidate every cycle since 1996. Not this time.

"The turnout figure was there, but Donald Trump wasn't personally popular with voters here," said Saratoga County Republican Committee Chairman Joseph Suhrada, who noted strong GOP performances in most local races. "We have a different brand in Saratoga County."
In other words, many red-leaning voters in Saratoga County didn't like Trump's personality and temperament, which is nothing new.
