Troy

Mayors around here have terrific job security. Voters almost never boot them from office.

Heck, even Shawn "Embattled" Morse is the favorite to win in Cohoes, despite the dark cloud of a federal indictment raining on his head.

Given that, it's reasonable to presume that Patrick Madden will stroll to reelection in Troy — that he'll dunk on Rodney Wiltshire in the upcoming Democratic primary before squishing the gnat Republicans are offering up for humiliation in the fall.

Except...

One not-so-small detail suggests Wiltshire could be a more formidable challenger than many would guess: He pretty much beat Madden in the last Democratic mayoral primary.

Remember the scandal? Don't jump off a bridge if you don't. Troy has had so many, hardly anyone can keep them all straight.

It went like this: Madden beat Wiltshire by a mere 50 votes, while a third candidate, Ernest Everett, received 280. Everett was later charged with falsifying the nominating petitions that put him on the ballot and was eventually sentenced to community service on three misdemeanor charges.

Four years later, questions about the legitimacy of the election remain. So do suspicions that Everett was on the ballot as part of a plot to stop........
