Parking for first responders, not for garden plots

It is an absolute slap in the face to Victoria firefighters and all first responders that the Victoria city council can consider converting excess parking spots to community gardens instead of providing them with parking.

Victoria firefighters sacrifice so much to keep our city safe. The least our city can do is provide them with parking to be able to get to their job.

I think Victorians need to really consider who they are voting for in October’s election. I know that I will not be voting for any council members, such as Dave Thompson, Jeremy Caradonna and Krista Loughton, who have supported the idea of using parking for gardens rather than providing our firefighters with parking.

Three rational voices on Victoria council

There have been plenty of well-deserved letters criticizing Victoria council. However, three council members consistently oppose the far-too-often absurd motions proposed.

Those voices of reason are Stephen Hammond, Marg Gardiner and Chris Coleman.

Check that when the Times Colonist reports council motions, and who opposes what. Those three people appear to be the only rational minds on council.

I sincerely hope they all run in the October municipal elections to give Victoria residents the opportunity to vote for a new mayor/council with common sense.

Great deal on garbage? Better look into it

Langford council claim that they can halve the price of garbage collection by eliminating competition.

Something about this stinks.

Apparently, B.C. seniors are tops in drinking statistics in Canada. I take that as a compliment.

Dangerous times after all these years

My roots on this continent go back 277 years to 1749 — long before there was a United States or Canada. An ancestral cousin was a Father of Confederation, and my connection to Canada is strong and unwavering.

I love this country, have zero desire to live........
