This past week, I visited Mumbai’s new happening exhibition location—the revamped Ballard Pier. Indian naval vessels were on one side and cargo operations on the other. The location was a much-needed rejuvenation of the Mumbai docks and brings the financial capital in line with other global cities like London, Shanghai and New York, where historic waterfronts have also undergone major transformations.
The Tesla Model Y L was going to be launched at the venue. This long-wheelbase variant, built by Elon Musk’s carmaker and the world’s best-selling vehicle for three consecutive years—could mark a turning point for the brand in India.
The Model Y L is longer, has three rows and enough space for the entire family. It also has more range and more power than the existing Model Y sold in India. But most importantly, it is also cheaper than the existing Model Y.
Available in one specification, the Model Y, priced at Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), is the most affordable luxury three-row vehicle in the market. Tesla officials were really optimistic about how this vehicle would do, especially as the American carmaker has barely made a dent on the sales........
