New Delhi: Sexual assault accused former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has come out in support of Unnao rape convict and former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar after a recent Delhi high court judgement suspended Sengar’s jail term.
Sengar, a former Uttar Pradesh MLA, was convicted of raping a minor in 2017 and later found to be involved in the killing of the vicitm’s father.
Last week, the Delhi high court suspended his sentence and granted him conditional bail, paving the way for his release from jail. The move prompted widespread anger and protests from the rape survivor and her family. The Supreme Court on Monday (December 29) stayed the Delhi high court order after significant backlash over Sengar’s potential release.
In a podcast conversation with UPTak, Bhushan, while referring to the survivor’s protest, said that “such drama should not happen”.
