Woman and child injured in fresh spate of settler attacks on Palestinian villages |
Israeli settlers raided the Palestinian village of Duma, in the central West Bank, wounding a woman and a child in one of several settler attacks against Palestinians throughout Saturday as the violent phenomenon continued unchecked.
The settlers descended on the village shortly after 7 a.m., according to the Haaretz daily, and also attacked a Bedouin hamlet adjacent to Duma, violating a closed military zone order imposed on the area by the IDF.
Duma residents attempted to repel the attack by hurling stones at the advancing settlers, one of whom was struck and lightly wounded, Haaretz reported. The 20-year-old Israeli was evacuated for medical treatment in mild condition, with a head injury.
During the settler attack, several Palestinian vehicles were vandalized, and a child suffered a facial injury caused by glass shards from a window of a makeshift home smashed by the attackers.
The settlers also doused the targeted homes with pepper spray, according to reports.
Among the families targeted in the attack were a number who had fled the nearby Ein Rashash community after coming under repeated settler attacks that were ignored by Israeli authorities toward the end of 2023, Haaretz reported.

Later in the afternoon, IDF troops finally arrived at Duma but proceeded to arrest one of the Israeli solidarity activists at the scene, rather than any of the settler attackers, who were allowed to flee the area and return to one of their neighboring illegal outposts.
The IDF issued a statement that only acknowledged the wounded Israeli suspect from the morning and made no mention of the settler attacks against the Palestinian villagers.
Separately on Saturday, an Israeli settler was filmed hurling stones at the home of prominent Palestinian activist Issa Amro in Hebron, as an IDF soldier watched from a distance.
In the footage, as the settler begins hurling stones at the window, one of the people inside the house yells in Hebrew for the soldier to “stop him,” but gets no response. Another voice shouts at the settler to “get the fuck out, terrorist fuck!”

A separate clip showed soldiers detaining the settler after the attack, but he was subsequently released.
In the second clip, the settler can be seen shoving and cursing at the soldiers trying to apprehend him.
The IDF said earlier today that it was looking into the matter, but as of early Sunday, it had yet to issue a response.
In a separate incident, footage showed an armed settler harassing a Palestinian family and blocking them from reaching their home in Hebron’s Wadi Al-Hasin neighborhood while soldiers looked on without interceding.
Critics accuse the government of turning a blind eye to the phenomenon or even of actively supporting those behind such attacks, which have become increasingly deadly in recent years.
Arrests in such cases of settler violence are rare, and convictions are even less common, even though these attacks take place on a daily basis.
Settler attacks in the West Bank have accelerated during the war with Iran that began on February 28 and entered a truce on April 8. During that time, the left-wing Yesh Din human rights organization recorded 378 incidents of settler violence against Palestinians and their property in the West Bank.
Eight Palestinians were shot and killed, and 200 were injured during that time, the organization said.
