Two soldiers said lightly hurt in clashes near West Bank shrine

Two Israeli soldiers were lightly hurt during clashes with Palestinians near Joseph’s Tomb in the northern West Bank early Monday, Hebrew media reported.

The soldiers were part of force guarding a group of some 500 Jewish worshippers who went to the site near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Palestinians attacked the convoy of busses going to the shrine with live fire, stones and homemade explosive devices, the Kan public broadcaster reported.

Soldiers returned fire toward the attackers. There were no imedete details on Palestinian casuialties.

One Border police officer was hit by shrapnel from an explosive device, while another soldier was hit in the face with a stone. Both were lightly wounded, Walla reported.

There was no immediate comment from the Israel Defense Forces.
