
Ministers announce funds for massive safety upgrade of deadly Route 90
Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman and Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli agreed Thursday to allocate NIS 110 million ($31.8 million) to improve safety on Route 90, one of Israel’s deadliest roads.
A roughly 100-kilometer section of road between the Arava Junction and Nahal Shita in the southern Negev region will be upgraded, enabling the installation of passing lanes, parking bays and lighting.
The funds come in addition to previously approved NIS 300 million ($86.7 million) to widen the road on the roughly 20 kilometers between Nahal Shita and Ketura Junction.
Michaeli thanked Liberman for joining the effort “to together advance these critical steps that protect the lives of commuters.”
