A pair of teenagers were arrested Friday for the suspected rape of a toddler in Beit Shemesh, in a case described as “especially cruel and shocking” by police.

According to a police statement, two 17-year-old residents of the city allegedly sexually abused a two-year-old girl related to one of them. Police said the alleged abuse occurred multiple times at an abandoned building in the city over an unspecified period of time.

The suspect related to the toddler approached police earlier this week and revealed the other teen asked him to bring her to the isolated location, where he said they raped, sodomized and performed other indecent acts.

Only once the toddler started crying did they return her to school, where she would remain throughout the day, the suspect told officers.

Police did not say why the suspect decided to come forward. He was arrested following his testimony, while his alleged accomplice was detained shortly later.

“In all my years as an investigator and officer in the police, I have not been exposed to a case so inhumane and without mercy,” a policeman investigating the case said.

After investigators finished collecting evidence, prosecutors said they intend to indict the suspects in the coming days. Both teens were placed under house arrest until Sunday.
