Israel is marking International Museum Day on Tuesday, with free entry throughout the day to dozens of museums.
It’s a good day to offer free entry, as it’s also Lag B’Omer, a Jewish holiday that doubles as a day off for schoolkids.
While International Museum day is a worldwide initiative, each country can choose when in May to mark it.
The museums will hold a variety of activities inspired by the theme of museums, sustainability and well-being, as well as special tours, gallery talks and creative workshops for children.
International Museum Day has been celebrated every year worldwide for the last 40 years, with the aim of increasing public awareness of museums’ contribution to society, encouraging the institutions to broaden their horizons and make the fields of science, art, architecture, history and cultural heritage accessible to the general public.
In 2022, more than 37,000 museums in some 158 countries and territories, including Israel, participated in the event.
