The Jewish people trace their origins back roughly 4,000 years, to the covenant God made with Abraham, as described in Genesis. From that moment, both Judaism and the Jewish people begin to take shape.

In this covenant, God makes three central promises:

First, that Abraham’s descendants will inherit the land of Canaan (the Land of Israel).

Second, that although Abraham had no children at the time, he would become the father of a great nation, his offspring as numerous as the stars.

Third, that his descendants would be blessed, and that through them “all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.”
