A Prayer for Israel, America, Our Troops, and the People of Iran |
This morning, our family in the United States joined a Zoom call with members of our family in Israel, who shared their fear and resolve as they endure ballistic missile attacks from Iran. The sirens did not sound during our conversation — but they could have. In that fragile space between ordinary family updates and extraordinary danger, we felt both the weight of uncertainty and the quiet strength that sustains them. At the conclusion of our gathering, I recited the following prayer — and across continents and time zones, every voice answered with a heartfelt Amen. I offer it here as well, and invite you to recite it each day of this war, adding your own voice to a chorus of faith, solidarity, and hope.
Ribbono Shel Olam, Master of the Universe,
We lift our hearts to You in this hour of danger and uncertainty.
Watch over the State of Israel and all who dwell within her borders.Spread over her the shelter of Your peace.Guide her leaders with wisdom, courage, and moral clarity.Guard her soldiers, her defenders, and all who stand vigilant against those who seek destruction.Return them safely to their families, whole in body and steadfast in spirit.
Bless the United States of America.Guide her President, her elected officials, and all who advise and counsel them.Grant them discernment in moments of consequence, humility in the exercise of power, and resolve in the defense of freedom.May they pursue justice, safeguard liberty, and act with moral strength.
Protect the men and women of the United States armed forces.Shield them from harm.Guide them with discipline and compassion.May they serve with strength and honor.Bring them home safely to those who love them.
And we pray as well for the innocent people of Iran —for mothers and fathers, for children and the elderly,for all who long for freedom, dignity, and a life without fear.Protect them from violence and oppression.Give courage to those who seek justice and speak truth.Hasten the day when tyranny falls and peace can flourish.
Avinu Malkeinu, Our Sovereign, Our King,Let not hatred rule the earth.Break the power of cruelty and terror.Lift up the oppressed.Plant in every land the seeds of compassion, justice, and truth.
May we soon see the fulfillment of the prophet’s vision:“Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,neither shall they learn war anymore.”
