What Tottenham and Israel Taught Me About Contradictions

As a Tottenham fan, I have spent most of this season describing it as disastrous.

And objectively, that makes sense.

Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League – the lowest possible position without being relegated. Safety was only mathematically secured on the final day of the season. For long stretches of the year, performances were poor, confidence was low, and the entire campaign felt like it was drifting towards catastrophe.

By almost every emotional measure, this was the worst Tottenham season of my lifetime.

Compared to last season, Spurs actually improved their points tally.

Not by much – just three points – but still an improvement. In fact, only six Premier League teams improved their points total this season, and Spurs ranked fourth in the league for year-on-year improvement.

At first glance, it makes absolutely no sense.

Everyone knows this season was worse. We all experienced it as worse. And yet, one formal measurement says the opposite.

That contradiction has stayed with me because, in a completely different context, it feels very similar to the situation I am currently navigating with FZY Israel Tour.

Right now, our Israel Tour........
