‘Nuremberg,’ the ‘Idiots Guide to Genocide,’ that everyone should see
I would like to suggest that instead of the usual Festive-season fare – Santa frolics or vapid rom-coms – everyone should settle down with their box of Celebrations (or Heroes or Quality Street) in front of something more educational such as “Nuremberg,” James Vanderbilt’s film about the 1945 trial of the Nazis who implemented a real genocide.
But sadly – although there is an hour-long documentary on Amazon Prime – the full-length movie with Russell Crowe’s standout portrayal of Hermann Goering – won’t be available until January or February. And that’s a pity, because it seems to me that a film which highlights the moral – and every other kind – of difference between War and Genocide should be seen by as many people as possible.
Indeed, at a time when Holocaust denial has become a key strand of the virulent post-Oct 7 explosion of Jew-hate, and regular attempts have been made to re-frame the Holocaust as “a crime against humanity,” I’d go so far as to suggest this movie with its real-life documentary footage of what Genocide looks like should be compulsory viewing for every indoctrinated (or plain stupid person) alleging “genocide” against Israel, and should be shown on a loop in every common-room in every university across Europe and the USA.
For the avoidance of doubt, Genocide is the brutal, systematic, industrial-scale slaughter such as that of Jews in Europe between 1942 and 1945 for no other reason than that they were Jews while War is where combatants – and, tragically civilians – die as a result of military action.
