(Note: This is part one of a two-part series intended to expose building anti-Semitism in the United States. My views in this opinion blog post are my own.)

On “Haaretz.com” three years ago, Mr. Anton Shekhovtsov sounded the alarm when he eloquently and articulately exposed the pernicious website titled “Russia Insider.”

Despite its peddling of virulent anti-Semitic tropes, “Russia Insider” remains online today. In fact, site publisher Mr. Charles Bausman apparently can earn money through PayPal and Patreon.

Fair-use screen capture, allowed by the U.S. Fair Use Doctrine, which shows the site has PayPal and Patreon accounts.

It apparently can also receive income from an ad service provider. This Fortnite ad was shown on the page when I screen-captured it. Fair-use screen capture, allowed by the U.S. Fair Use Doctrine, of a webpage on “Russia Insider.”

Before you despair, help may be on the way. On July 26, PayPal and the ADL “announced a new partnership initiative to fight extremism and hate through the financial industry and across at-risk communities,” according to an ADL news release.

“This is the latest effort by PayPal in combating racism, hate and extremism across its platforms and the industry,” it said.

Some observers say such action is a danger to free speech. I do not agree. As a longtime former editor and publisher of weeklies and dailies in the United States, I support free speech. I don’t support hate speech demonizing a specific groups of people that has a potential for violence against the group being demeaned.

Over two millennia, history has shown how virulent anti-Semitism expressed in words has become physically violent anti-Semitic assaults and even murder. Anyone with a simple understanding of history should be aware of this combination that was also a factor in what lead to the Shoah (Holocaust).........
