Since October 7, 2023, and for several years, the eastern Mediterranean has been experiencing a profound strategic realignment. The strengthened military and security collaboration among Israel, Greece, and Cyprus is no longer just a matter of technical coordination or joint exercises: it reflects a regional restructuring in which Turkey appears to be the main loser, marginalized at the same time on the security, energy, and diplomatic levels.This dynamic is part of the context of strong regional turbulence. The Gaza war, Lebanon and Syria’s tensions, the eastern Mediterranean bloc competition, and the polarization of alliances are pushing states to look for partners deemed reliable, predictable, and strategically compatible. The triangle of Israel, Greece, and Cyprus has gradually established itself based on these criteria.

For Israel, getting along with Athens and Nicosia is important for several reasons. On the security front, military cooperation with two members of the European Union and NATO (for Greece) offers strategic depth and a diversification of its partnerships at a time when its relations with Ankara have deteriorated significantly.
