Has Rishi Sunak’s impossible balancing act delivered hope?

Boris Johnson spoke of the crocus of hope poking its way through the frost and spring being round the corner when he launched the roadmap to end lockdown a couple of weeks ago, but has Rishi Sunak delivered hope for small businesses in his budget this week?

Work Avenue – the Jewish community’s leading employment and business support organisation – have been supporting many people who have lost their jobs or been trying hard to keep their businesses afloat during this pandemic.

And so we all watched with anticipation to see how the Chancellor addressed the unprecedented challenges of the last year with regard to employment and business, but with an eye to the future as well.

He has, as we all recognise, a near impossible balancing act given the staggering deficit the country is facing but the plan to increase corporation tax to 25% in 2023 is a bitter pill to swallow for many small businesses, as it was these company directors that went without any support from the Government during the pandemic.

Additionally, increasing taxes on profits could also impact those same businesses, who need to........
