A Wider War? Don’t Believe It

The view from the Middle East is a lot different than what we read on social media or from the Western press.

The talking points in the Western press are that Israel attacked poor innocent Iran causing a conflagration in the Middle East which threatens to absorb in war not only the Middle East, but perhaps the entire world.

The answer to those rumors and charges is simply, “bunk.”

Iran was weeks away from the nuclear weapon with which it would have held the world hostage.  Iran has made no secret of its desire to make the West fanatically Muslim, to destroy the United States, and to bury Israel.

Had Israel, with the help of the United States, not struck Iran, the world would have been faced with a true conflagration.  Just imagine how the world would have been different if in 1939 there was an Israel and strong presidential leadership in the United States. World War II might never have happened, and 50 million lives could have been saved.  That’s right 50 million people lost their lives in World War II because the West would not stand up to Adolph Hitler, and after World War II, it was fearful of Joseph Stalin and the Russians.

Perhaps the most enduring legacy of Operation Rising Lion is that Arab states are now working with the United States and Israel to contain and destroy the hegemony of Iran, and its proxy terrorist states in the Middle East.  This may lead to a true and enduring peace in the Middle East, or at least a much better situation than we have had in this region of the world since the Iranian Revolution of 1977.

The anti-Trump politicians in the United States, in particular, are falling all over themselves to convince the public that Donald Trump and his Israeli companions have created Armageddon.  Those charges are false, defamatory, and destructive.  The enemies of western Democracy listen to the reckless opponents of a strong and secure America and Israel.

Donald Trump has certainly been wrong about a lot of things like his bizarre desire to acquire Greenland, threats to make Canada the 51st State, and a quirkish tariff policy that thankfully, the United States Supreme Court has declared unconstitutional.  However, even someone that some of us may dislike can be correct some of the time.  As the old saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day.  Donald Trump is correct to assure a Middle East without the dangers presented by Iran.

The world is a dangerous and threatening place.  The President also has to deal with the hungry bear in Russia, and the suave interventionists running corporate China.  The President must have strong affiliations with other western democracies, like he does with Israel.  That is not an easy task given the weak and struggling leadership in both Britain and France.  Other European countries have awakened from their slumber and now ware working with the United States to secure a safe and productive western culture.  Some of those nations are beginning to carry their defense burden, trade fairly with the United States, and to take their rightful place as legitimate working partners.

This part of the world sees the United States for what it is; the most powerful and reliable friend that a free democracy can have.  Of the 200 jet airplanes utilized by Israel in its attack against Iran, 30 of them were flown by women.  No country in the world can claim egalitarianism, freedom for minorities, and diversity that exists in this country.  The United States needs to trust its women soldiers, flyers, and sailors the way Israel does.  Perhaps our great constitutional monarchy across the “Great Seas” can learn something about diversity and inclusion.  Incorporating the best of the best does not mean excluding any one particular group, race, or gender, but rather incorporating the talents of all.

The holiday of Purim was just celebrated in Israel, and we have been fortunate to go to a few parties this week.  In the Purim story, the Jews were about to murdered by the King of Persia (modern day Iran) for simply being an annoyance to the Kingdom.  Persia was so large that it extended from India to Ethiopia, challenging both the Greek and Roman monopoly in the world.

When Queen Esther hesitated to challenge the King for the genocide planned by his chief lieutenant, a man named Haman, her uncle reminded her, “remember you cannot hide even in the palace of the King.”  Esther took that advice seriously and rose to the occasion.  There is a marvelous painting by a Frenchman approximately 150 years ago in which Esther is seen pointing at Haman accompanied by the words “j’accuse.”  Esther was one of many great Jewish women in history who stood up for her nation and saved it from destruction.

This Purim, all the adults in our household dressed up along with the kids, some as actors in the great Purim Story, and others, well, just looked a little goofy.  We had a good time, had great barbeque, and consumed a little bit of wine.  Most importantly, we heard the Purim Megillah read and stamped our feet at the mention of the name Haman.

We were able to have this joy thanks to G-d, the thunder of Israeli fighter jets above and help from American, which we saluted, toasted, and drank to.

Thank you, America, and thank you Israel for providing a safer and more just world.
