The Story of Everything, the new film by Stephen Meyer, presents three major scientific arguments for God in a way that is clear, engaging, and highly accessible. It succeeds in doing something difficult: translating deep scientific and philosophical ideas into a compelling cinematic narrative without sacrificing the seriousness of the subject.

Like any film, however, its medium imposes limits. A documentary must move quickly, and that means some of the logical structure connecting its arguments remains implicit rather than fully spelled out. It’s not a flaw. It’s part of the nature of the format. But it does make it worthwhile to step back and trace the deeper flow of the argument.
