Can there be a third front?

We have three kinds of regional parties in India: one which needs the BJP, one which needs the Congress, and the last that needs neither national party. The last is the most politically significant grouping and they matter in 182 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across six states. Most of these are the parties now meeting under TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao’s push for a federal front and include TMC, BJD, SP, and BSP. But KCR is yet to reach out to CPM with its roots in Kerala and Tripura and are staunchly anti-Congress and anti-BJP in its politics.

Then there are the regional parties that cannot afford to unhitch themselves from the BJP or Congress bandwagons. The likes of Nitish Kumar in Bihar and MK........
